Pacifica Forward — Securing Our Future

Pacifica Forward is a national coalition of directors, listeners, volunteers, staff and managers from all five Pacifica stations (KPFA, KPFK, KPFT, WBAI, and WPFW) working with representatives of the 200+ Pacifica Affiliate Stations. Together we strive to promote Pacifica’s visionary dream of independent peace and social justice media — for today and for future generations.

The Pacifica Foundation Inc. stands alone as the only large-scale, non-commercial radio network in the United States. It is democratically governed by the membership. In an era of unprecedented crackdowns on journalism and the consolidation of corporate media our mandate is to stay strong, relevant and independent.

Our Pacifica Forward candidates helped to coordinate Pacifica’s 2025 Bylaws Settlement that bring our boards into a new era of transparency and functionality:

  • National Governance: Thousands of listeners, staff, and volunteer members now directly elect Pacifica National Board Directors who make the network’s major strategic and financial decisions.
  • Local Vitality: The Local Station Board Officers and Staff Representatives, are also directly elected by members and are empowered to focus their energy where it matters most—on outreach, grassroots fundraising, and local community engagement.

Our Vision

Our goal is to provide a robust national infrastructure to speak truth to power in a world threatened with autocracy. Pacifica Forward Candidates bring the necessary professional level experience and technical skills to help the network produce and promote powerful engaging programs. And they support this in depth programming with a strategic financial recovery plan for organizational survival.

Fiscal Sustainability

Pacifica Forward candidates are experienced with non-profit financial management and non-commercial media. We build Pacifica’s financial sustainability for our listener-sponsored stations to protect program integrity.

Pacifica Forward will help Pacifica through Governance and Growth in Fundraising and Listenership, while Staying Committed to the Pacifica mission

Improving Governance

In 2025, the National Board agreed to settle a lawsuit with New Day Pacifica over Bylaws reform, and agreed on new Pacifca Bylaws that give members more control, that make the boards more manageable, and that have already resulted in smoother-running Board meetings to better help the Foundation’s finances and further its mission that is devoted to independent media.

Pacifica Forward hopes to recruit and support Board members who will work together to support the Pacifica mission while helping their stations grow and become more important voices in their communities and in our country.

Helping Pacifica Stations Grow

For years, Pacifica struggled with deficit spending, plus an inability to get and keep volunteers with experience in fundraising for non-profits. Pacifica stations also declined in listenership, membership, and donations.

But with the 2025 Bylaws, it has become easier to find Board members and other volunteers with experience and interest in getting more funds to pay the bills as well as having more effective publicity and outreach to increase listenership and support. It has also helped with new goals for such specifics as creating a national news project.

This is also critical to Pacifica’s educational mission, as it cannot serve as an effective independent media organization without getting more listeners and supporters.

With the new Bylaws, members will be able to directly vote for Board candidates with expertise and commitment to important key positions, instead of voting at-large for all positions and hope that people with the right skill sets will be elected. Pacifica Forward intends to help with this by looking for candidates with the skills and interest in applying those skills to help our stations.
