Why Pacifica Forward?
KPFA, KPFK, KPFT, WPFW & WBAI LISTENERS
For the first time ever, with Pacifica’s new Bylaws, members can directly elect representatives to the Pacifica Board that makes major programming, financial and governance decisions for the network.
A donation of $25 per person or $50 per couple, or more, to your station between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026 makes you a voting member for the 2026 summer election, and helps keep the programming you like on the air.
If you have not contributed yet PLEASE DONATE now to your station: KPFA, KPFK, KPFT, WPFW, WBAI
Pacifica Elections are coming up this summer
One of the goals of Pacifica Forward is to help ensure that we have good governance to lead Pacifica – something that’s especially important with the challenging political climate in the US, and with issues that other media is not covering adequately. That means we need candidates for the Pacifica National Board, and for our Local Station Boards, who can work together effectively to meet those challenges.
The new Pacifica Bylaws, approved in 2025, gives Pacifica members better opportunities to choose Board members who can meet these challenges.
There are Three Important Areas for Pacifica Board Members
01
Vital programming
Pacifica is a non-profit educational foundation, and it needs to provide quality programming that other stations won’t let you hear, and help you learn more. This includes news and public affairs, culture, and music.
We stay independent by not depending on huge corporate donors or underwriters to pay our expenses.
Good programming attracts more listeners, and that means more donations to pay the bills.
02
Fiscal Responsibility
Over the years, Pacifica has been limited in fulfilling its mission due to inadequate funding and running up large debts – partly due to Board members in our governance who did not understand that we have to bring in revenue to meet expenses.
Our new Bylaws give you, our members, more control over who’s on the Pacifica National Board, that sets policy for the entire network.
Board members need to help management with fundraising and watching expenditures, while remembering our educational mission.
03
Direct Democracy
Pacifica should be of, by, and for its members and other listeners. For the first time in its history, the new Bylaws now allow members to directly elect officers and others for the National Board.
Members will also elect people to their Local Station Board, by choosing people for specific offices (Chair, Vice Chair, etc.) rather than to non-specific at-large positions.
It’s important to vote for candidates who will help our stations get and keep listeners, and not just push management to give their friends a show, as has happened some in the past.
What You Can Do Now to Help Your Station
Three Steps to Take to Help your Station Continue to Bring you Programming You Want
Pacifica elections, and the offices, will be different than in the past, under the new 2025 Pacifica Bylaws.
What to do so your voice will count:
1. Make sure your membership is current on July 1 so you can vote.
2. Suggest people who will be good board member candidates, and tell us why.
3. Look for your ballot and vote in August.

Donate to your Station – and to Pacifica Forward if you are so Inclined
Pacifica stations – KPFA, KPFK, KPFT, WBAI, and WPFW receive no federal grants and depend on you and other listeners to pay the bills and stay on the air with programming you can’t hear on other stations – uncensored news, music, and public affairs.
In addition, only people who have donated (at least $25/person or $50/couple) between July 1 of last year, and June 30 of this year, will be current members and eligible to vote. Make sure your station has your current, correct email address.
Donate here to your station and/or Pacifica Forward.

Let us know who would be a good local or national Board member from your station.
Pacifica is a grassroots organization. Please see our endorsements web page for more information on board memers, then use our Contact Form to send suggestions on who to endorse for your Local or National Board, and why. Don’t wait until just before the election!
When the election is getting closer, we’ll choose who to endorse based on recommendations and update our endorsement page then.

Look for your Online Ballot in August, and Vote
While our country focuses on candidates for public office, we also need to help our stations by electing Board members who will help Pacifica to meet the challenge of today’s media and the tactics used to keep you from getting independent news, music, and public affairs you need and want.
Come back to this web site by Aug. 1 for our endorsements – and VOTE in the Pacifica elections then.. They are only once very 3 years now and you don’t want to miss your opportunity.
